Support Remedial Education for Tribal Kids
PROBLEM – Bru(Reang) tribes have been one of the oldest inhabitants of Mizoram. The ethnic clashes in 1997 compelled them to abandon their homes and live a life of refugees in 6 make-shift camps in North Tripura. Owing to the lack of basic infrastructure and government interest in their wellbeing, the community has been unacquainted with
sanitation, electricity and water supply. The situation in the camp is really pitiable as these people are struggling to cater basic needs of their family. Kids in these camps are deprived of education due to lack of schools in near vicinity.
SOLUTION – Lacking the support for primary education, Sewa International has decided to support and provide learning centers in Naisingpara, Ashapara, Kaskaupara, Khakchangpara and Damcherra camps.
· There are 17 such centers running with more than 400 kids learning basic literacy and enjoy various co-curricular activities like games, festival celebration, general knowledge quiz etc.
· These kids are talented and celebrate local festivals with utter fervor and are very interested in local dance and music.
IMPACT - Sewa International is working towards improving the learning abilities of disadvantaged kids through education. Through our sincere efforts and support from noble donors, more than 400 such kids have reached at the level of literacy and it keep on increasing with each passing year.
