Initiated in the year 1990 by Dr. S.N. Dixit, Professor Emeritus, Northwestern University, Chicago, USA, the school began operations with just two students. After 25 years of living in USA, Dr Dixit wanted to give back to his birth city Kanpur an institution for helping the disabled. Thus was established the Jyoti Bal Vikas Sanstha in Kanpur, as an affiliate of the Jyoti Children’s Development Foundation, USA. The objective of the foundation is to educate disabled children, train them in a specific vocation, and help them find employment for them to become independent and self-supporting members of the society. The positive response from families of the students, generous donations from across the globe, and the dedication of volunteers and staff provided the school the right impetus to carve a niche for itself. A seed sown and nurtured with care has grown into a tree providing shelter, care and special education to hearing impaired children from across the country. It welcomes 200 students including 55 residential and a professionally trained and committed staff.
