THE PROBLEM

Amhi Amchya Arogyasathi has been working with the Differently Able for more than a decade in Gadchiroli, Bhandara and Chadrapur districts of Maharashtra . While working we realized the Identification, Certification,, Education, Access to health care, Employment etc are the big issues for the Differently Able. The rural community and families has the stigma about Differently Able that they are dependent on family and a belief that they can never be self-reliant. It was then we decided that for us it is very imperative to shun this taboo and make the differently abled, sself-reliant.

OUR SOLUTION

Thus, we work on the following issues: Identification, Certification and Access to health care and government schemes. These are then organized into SHG’s which takes care of Community Mobilization, Candidates enrolment, selection cum screening of candidates - conducting two months residential training for Speech and Hearing Impaired, Orthopedically Handicapped and low vision. We also provide residential accredited training in Computer skills (Microsoft Office, Internet, Typing), Spoken English, Personality Development, Retails, Hospitality etc.The last but not the least is we establish linkages and networking with various employers in neighbouring places and facilitates the process of placements for the trainee.

THE IMPACT

Following are the key outcomes of the Project: We have provided training to the 132 differently able including 55 male and 77 female candidates along with 78 speech and hearing impared, 51 orthopedical handicaped and 3 low-vison candidates. Our 75 out of 132 candidates are placed in last 8 months. We have only been able to achieve success by organizing them into 35SHGs and 8 Federations.
